  1. Send a message to your City Councilmembers asking them to lower the speed limit on all residential streets to 20 MPH in Jacksonville, Florida. Feel free to use the talking points below for message ideas. We encourage you to include your experiences and a picture of you and your sign to emphasize the personal impact that this change will make on communities throughout Jacksonville.

 

  • Speeding can have deadly consequences for pedestrians and cyclists. Research shows that lowering the speed limit can improve safety outcomes for the local community.

  • Lower speed limits benefit all road users and help everyone get where they need to go safely. While lower speed limits increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, it also improves safety outcomes for motorists by increasing their reaction time, increasing their stopping distance, and lowering their chances of causing harm.

  • Lowering the speed limit of residential neighborhoods is a cost-effective way to improve the walkability and accessibility of neighborhoods without exorbitant infrastructure changes.
